09:00 AM—12:30 PM
This new program begins with two in-person, Saturday morning structured conversations around faculty and student projects focused on improving learning. The group will collaboratively explore the projects and share feedback regarding how to have the greatest impact in K-12 classrooms.
Session 1
May 7th: “Achievement Unlocked: A Student-centered Approach to Promoting Motivation and Wellbeing”. A collaboration between Stanford’s Graduate School of Education and School of Medicine, this project involves the creation of a new self-paced, online, multimedia (non-credit) mini-course the focused on how instruction, grading, discipline, and wellness practices can work together to support motivation, achievement, and wellbeing for students and staff. Lessons describe important social, emotional, and cultural dimensions of learning; explore various facets of motivation science from a developmental perspective that focuses on late childhood and early adolescence, and discuss a variety of strengths-based academic life coaching concepts, principles, and practices.
Upcoming, Session 2
May 21st: “Leveraging Social Media Approaches to Capture, Share, and Inspire Pedagogical Innovations”Perhaps amplified by the pandemic, teachers seem to have less and less time to collaboratively plan and share lessons and practices across classroom contexts. This project responds to that need. In collaboration with a local school district, a team from Stanford’s Graduate School of Education is developing new approaches for teachers to produce and share online “feeds” of innovative strategies. Thought of as a “TikTok for Teachers” or “Instagram for Instruction” approach, this project will involve both researching local teachers’ needs and developing an online platform to quickly discover and share ideas for digital pedagogy that work.
