About the workshop

The first workshop in the series, Building a Mental Model of the AI Landscape and Exploring its Possibilities for Education, features guest Matthew Berman. With over 330k YouTube subscribers, Matthew is known for making complex AI topics accessible.

This session offers a mix of discussion and hands-on engagement, helping you:

  • Develop a mental model of the generative AI landscape, to help you organize future learnings in generative AI research and news.
  • Organize models and applications into categories as per their respective capabilities and feasibility.
  • Learn about methods to improve and evaluate model precision, accuracy, and speed (and why it’s important)
  • Interact with cutting-edge genAI-based applications, discussing their potential and limitations for education
  • Access a curated selection of tools available both during and after the workshop.

This workshop series is presented by the Stanford Accelerator for Learning’s Digital Learning Initiative in partnership with the AI Tinkery. It is open to Stanford students, faculty, staff and alumni. No prior experience with AI models is required.

About Matthew Berman

Matthew Berman is CEO of Forward Future, an AI consulting firm that helps Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits and institutions integrate advanced AI solutions into their operations. He is the co-founder and former CEO of Sonar Technologies, a company that developed a pioneering text messaging platform leveraging AI-powered chatbots. Sonar grew to serve clients like Zillow and Bird, before being acquired by Marchex Inc. in 2019.
